crown gym mats inc., which started out 40 years ago as a small canvas-cleaning business, has played a key role in development of today's athletic mats, protecting athletes in track and field, wrestling, gymnastics, martial arts, cheerleading and other sports. founder oliver bramble patented the important concept of air release during his work with the chicago board of education in the 60s. some of those mats are still used today.
