"When Conventional Stern Drives Just Won't Do" The DBD Stern Drive was first developed in 1994 when there was a need for a hardwater Stern Drive with the simplicity of a conventional "V" Drive. When developing the Drive, three design principles were followed: Simplicity. Reliability. Durability. The Simplicity of the DBD Drive comes from the sealed one piece drive casing with no internal gearbox. The Realibility of the DBD Drive comes from its 6 internal moving parts made up of 4 bearings and 2 CV joints. Finally, the Durability comes from the DBD casing made up of Stainless Steel and Bronze Alloy guaranteeing years of corrosion free use for both fresh and saltwater boating.
